Inter University Centre for Bioscience
The Inter University Centre for Bioscience (IUCB) at Kannur University has been established as part of a special initiative of the Higher Education Department , Government of Kerala to provide cutting edge infrastructure for developing Centres of Excellence in research in areas of specific relevance to the state. It functions in conjunction with the Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology.
IUCB has so far produced thirty plus research publications in high impact international journals since its inception in 2010.It is developing into a hub of frontier level research activities in the studies of secondary metabolites of medicinal plants and marine flora.
The IUCB is poised to take up indepth studies in:
1. Hermeneutics of traditional medical texts
2. Plant metabolic engineering
3. Therapeutically active principles
4. Separation and derivatization science,
5. Toxicology studies
6. Developing new herbal products
7. Bio molecular structure & information science
8. Instrumentation & instrument maintenance division
9. Animal & cell culture facilities
10. Herbal garden & repositories & green house
The Central Library of the University housed at Thavakkara Campus in Kannur City is spread over an area of 13304 sq.m.
It comprises various sections for neo literature, Malabar collection, art gallery, heritage museum and digital library. It also has a separate section for the visually challenged and for audio visual activities.
The library is a recognized research centre of the University in the subjects of History, Sanskrit, Statistics, Philosophy, English, Sociology, Economics, Malayalam, Urdu, and Music.
It is fully automated, and uses library software SOUL , developed by INFLIBNET, Ahmedabad. The library provides the services of DELNET and UGC-INFONET e-journal consortium.
All the campuses of the Kannur University have Wi-Fi web access which provides round the clock high speed web access to the entire student community. It allows them to connect to various search engines and data base systems for their academic purposes.
Sports is highly encouraged in the University. The students have to their credit many achievements in the state and national level in sports and games.
